Velocity Micro tablets have long been a player in the budget segment. Of course as VM caters to budget-conscious minds, we’ve seen various examples of the tablets themselves being placed at the lower-end of the feature spectrum, which usually skimps on memory size and tops everything off with expiring desserts. With CES being a matter of just days away, VM is set to introduce two solid Cruz tablets. While the two tablets don’t quite match up specs-wise toquad-core beasts, they may attract more than consideration from prospective consumers. Check out the specs for the two Cruz tablets:
Cruz Tablet T507
- 7-inch Capacitive screen
- 1.2 Ghz Cortex A8 Processor
- 400Mhz ARM Mali GPU
- 512 MB RAM
- 8 GB Internal Storage
- Front-facing camera
- HDMI out
Cruz Tablet T510
- 9.7-inch Capacitive screen
- 8.9mm Thick
- 1.2 GHz Cortex A8 Processor
- 400Mhz ARM Mali GPU
- 512 MB RAM
- 8 GB Internal Storage
- Front-facing camera
- HDMI out
Those are pretty generic specs, but there’s one last feature that’s the highlight of the tablets:Android 4.0. Yes, you read that right— VM’s new budget-friendly tablets are set to feature Ice Cream Sandwich running the show. Those generic specs suddenly look more appealing with ICS, don’t they? Oh and there’s more, while we don’t know exactly what the pricing will be for the 10-inch version, the 7-inch tablet is expected to be priced around $150. The price is definitely right there.
There’s one teeny little detail that you should be aware of however– both devices do not feature the Android Market or Google Apps. The tablets instead feature the Amazon App Store, which has a pretty solid lineup of great apps. Nevertheless, while there’s no Android Market or Google Apps and still features some aging hardware, the tablets will no doubt appeal to many people. Look for the formal introductions and announcements of the tablets at CES next week.
