Apple iTV Coming 2012 – Sharp To Produce Displays [Rumor]

Over the last few weeks we have heard more rumors on Apple’s possible iTv project. We reported a few days ago that Sharp was a possible supplier of displays for the new iPad and now we have seen news thatSharp may also be supplying screen for an upcoming TV.
A Wall Street analyst with a history of accurately predicting Apple’s development process said late last week that the Japa
nese set maker, Sharp, would begin shortly manufacturing screens for the new iTVs. via
With Apple dominating over the music player and phone market Apple may soon expand to revolutionize the TV. Reports say that production will start in January and we may see the TV mid 2012. Keep in mind there is little known so don’t get your hopes up.

Video hands-on with Cluzee: Not quite a Siri competitor

There are a few things a voice-recognition app needs to do well to be successful -- and must do extremely well if it wants to call itself a competitor to Apple's Siri.
  1. It needs to be easilly accessible, and launch quickly. Very quickly.
  2. It needs to actually understand what you're saying.
  3. It needs to return results quickly.
As we continue to find out, this is easier said than done. The latest victim candidate is Cluzee, which bills itself as "Your Intelligent Personal Assisant" -- and which despite some initial glowing press doesn't really stand up to simple testing.

Let's start with Point 1: You need to be able to launch a voice app like this quickly. The iPhone 4S has a leg up by allowing you to long-press the home button to launch Siri at any time. Simple, quick. With Cluzee, you need a home screen shortcut, which means having to wake and unlock the phone first. If the app's not yet in memory, it takes several seconds to launch -- an eternity for this sort of thing. It really has to be faster. (And it is, so long as Cluzee remains loaded.)
On to Point 2: Cluzee understood our tests some of the time, but not all of the time. And even in our abbreviated use, it seemed to struggle more than it should. That ties into Point 3: Returning results for local pizza locations took so long we thought the app had hung on us (force closes are not uncommon at this point). And opening applications through Cluzee took too many steps. (Us: "Open Google Maps." Cluzee: "Which application do you want me to open?" Grrrrrr.)
That's not to say Cluzee doesn't have potential -- it most certainly does, and it does a decent job at personifying itself, using the pronouns you'd expect from something like this. But let's not go calling it a Siri competitor just yet. If you want to give it a shot, we've got download links after the break.

Galaxy Nexus cracked open -- silicon, tiny screws and magic found inside

As is customary with any big, new phone, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus recently received the teardown treatment from the fearless spudgers over at iFixit. There's nothing too surprising lurking inside the chassis -- after all, we've been over and over the specs for this thing in the lead up to its release. Nevertheless, if you're big on electronics and want to see what the Nexus looks like on the inside without cracking yours open, then it may be of interest. Note that this is a teardown of the GSM version -- the guts of the elusive Verizon LTE model will likely look a little different. Head to the source link for the full teardown, or check out our GSM Galaxy Nexus review if you want to see more of what this phone looks like on the outside.

Skyrocket in white, afternoon delight

We're still not seeing it on AT&T's product page, but Samsung most certainly does have a white version of the Galaxy S II Skyrocket waiting in the wings, for those of you who are into that sort of things. Specs look to be identical to the black Skyrocket, save for the shell. Keep an eye out for this one to be available at some point, we reckon.

Android Game Review: Ground Effect Pro XHD

If there's one game I loved playing as I was growing up, it'd have to be Hydro Thunder. Piloting souped-up speed boats with ridiculous turbo jets tacked onto their backs was one of the highlights of any trip to the arcade, and I could burn endless amounts of quarters playing again and again and again.

Tweaks Of The Week: StatusBarSeconds, CustomColor, InstaURL, LaunchVibrate, and AutoScroller

There have been a lot of tweaks that have come out this week. Many of these tweaks can be useful, but some are just for plain out fun. This week we review StatusBarSeconds, CustomColor, InstaURL, LaunchVibrate, and AutoScroller.
StatusBarSeconds is a free tweak that puts seconds on your status bar’s clock. I find this tweak pretty neat because I like to know the seconds of the day. The developer mentioned that there might be somebattery drainage due to the constant updating of the time. I, however, have not seen any battery issues, although I did see that my iPhone was a little buggy and even went into Safe Mode a couple of times. There are no options to configure for this tweak.

Microsoft TellMe vs Siri

Microsoft claims that they have had Siri like capabilities on Windows phones for over a year. While this might be true there is quite a difference between the two.

A video came out from TechAU proving this. TellMe (Microsoft’s assistant) stuggles to recognize what the user is saying meanwhile Siri is executing the tasks and guideing the user through their options

High Resolution iPad 3 Due To Come In March

iLounge’s sources claim that a “slightly thicker” next generation iPad is due to come in March of 2012.It will feature a body change along with the next iPhone and Macbook Pro.
The display of the iPad will be improved (possibly retina) and the reason that the device will be 0.7mm thicker. The source also claims that the product could be shown off as soon as January of next year. Source
Our most reliable source has spoken: expect body changes for the next iPad, iPhone, and MacBook Pro. Here’s what we’ve heard.
 (1) The third-generation iPad will become modestly thicker (0.7mm) in order to accommodate the twin light bar system needed for its higher-resolution display. It’s currently on track for a March timeframe release, and according to our source could be publicly shown as early as January, depending on conditions.
 (2) Our source says that the next-generation iPhone will not look like the teardrop-shaped version that was widely rumored for release in 2011. We’ve been told that the device will have a 4-inch display and will be 8mm longer than before, with a metal casing (probably aluminum). It is on track to be introduced in summer of 2012, and is still in the engineering phase, not early production. We suspect that poor battery life doomed the prior prototype version, and that this one is being built with LTE-ready battery drain in mind.
(3) Barring some huge and unexpected issue, 2012 will be the year when the MacBook Pro line gets its new design. Think thinner.

How To Get Settings Panel Shortcuts On Your Home Screen For Free! (No Jailbreak Required)

We reported a couple of weeks ago about how to get SBSettings like toggles for free without a jailbreak. It was really neat and I personally liked it a lot, but now I am here to show you a new faster, easier, nicer looking, and free way to add toggles. Here are the steps that you need to follow:
Step 1: Open Safari and type in this address: brdrck.me/settings
Step 2: Once the page loads, choose what icon you want on your homescreen
Step 3: Choose which icon you want (It depends if there is an alternative icon, if there isn’t any, skip this step)
Step 4: Press install
Step 5: At this point, you will be taken to the settings panel so that you can install a profile. All you have to do is press install again then press the install now on the alert.
Step 6: Your done!
